ABOUT ZACHARY
Zachary Schulman is a New York City-based photographer dedicated to crafting images that advance movements for social change, support progressive nonprofits, and boost community-based organizations.
Prior to working as a professional photographer, he spent 14 years working directly with New York City community gardeners as a community organizer, program manager, and as part of direct action campaigns to support and defend gardens from destruction. Through this work he learned to observe fully, listen carefully, and interact with kindness, and brings these skills and experiences to every photographic endeavor.
Zachary’s work is on display at the Museum of the City of New York, has been featured on WNYC’s Morning Edition, and has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Democracy Now!, ABC News, Politico, The Source, Vice, Gothamist, Zeteo News, The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Al Jazeera, Earth Island Journal, Hyperallergic, Financial Times, Town & Country, The Progressive, The Forward, N+1, e-flux, Thrillist, Hell Gate, NowThis News, Colorlines, Civil Eats, City & State New York, GO Magazine, Common Dreams, Religion News Service, JarryMag, and more.
